SUPPORT IN PROCESSING TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCES AND THEIR IMPACT ON EVERYDAY LIFE.

EMDR therapy in English

EMDR therapy in English

When the past still affects the present

Some experiences leave more than memories behind. Although they belong to the past, they can still trigger fear, tension or a sense of danger. EMDR therapy is a form of psychotherapy used primarily to address the effects of traumatic experiences and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Its aim is to reduce the distress associated with difficult memories, not to erase them.

How it works – step by step

1

You book your first consultation

You book an appointment with Izabela Trojan.

2

We get to know your history and needs

We discuss your current difficulties, experiences and expectations. Together, we assess whether EMDR is an appropriate form of support for you.

3

We prepare for therapy

We explain how therapy works and discuss ways of managing tension. The preparation is tailored to your needs and readiness.

4

We work with difficult memories and review your progress

We work with selected memories at a pace agreed together. We revisit your therapy goals and look at what is changing in your everyday life.

These are the main stages of therapy, not a fixed timetable. The pace and course of treatment depend on an individual clinical assessment.

Who is EMDR therapy for?

People diagnosed with PTSD or experiencing symptoms that may suggest post-traumatic stress

People who have experienced traumatic events whose effects interfere with daily life

People experiencing recurring, distressing memories

People who avoid situations that remind them of a traumatic experience

People who want to find out whether EMDR may be suitable for their difficulties

Having a distressing memory does not necessarily mean you have PTSD. A consultation can help you understand your symptoms and identify suitable support.

How can EMDR therapy help?

Less intense distressing memories and associated emotions

Less intense reactions to situations that bring back memories of trauma

Reduced severity of post-traumatic stress symptoms

Finding it easier to return to everyday activities and relationships

Seeing difficult experiences from a different perspective

These are possible benefits of therapy, not guaranteed outcomes. The process and results vary from person to person.

How we work – our approach

We begin by assessing your individual needs and agreeing on goals together. We tailor preparation for working with difficult experiences to your circumstances — not everyone needs the same amount of time for this stage.

We respect your boundaries and pace. Your therapist explains the process in advance and monitors your responses throughout. If processing a memory becomes too intense, you can say “STOP” at any time to pause the processing.

Throughout therapy, we review your progress and revisit your needs. We adjust the plan when necessary.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Have another question? Contact our reception team — we’ll be happy to help.

Do I need a PTSD diagnosis?

No. You can book a consultation even if you are experiencing difficulties related to past events but have not been diagnosed with PTSD. During the appointment, you and the specialist can explore your situation and the support options available.

Do I have to describe every detail of a traumatic event?

Not necessarily. EMDR therapy does not usually require you to describe every detail of a difficult experience aloud. However, the process does involve recalling selected memories and the responses associated with them. Your therapist will explain how this works.

How should I prepare for my first appointment?

You do not need to prepare a detailed account of your experiences. It may help to think about what has prompted you to seek support and what you would like to change. The first consultation is an opportunity to understand your situation and agree on the next steps.

How long might therapy take?

There is no single number of sessions that suits everyone. The length of therapy depends, among other things, on the nature of your experiences, current difficulties and pace of progress. You will discuss a plan after the initial assessment and review it as therapy progresses.
